The movie star, comedian and fiance of Katy Perry took to his blog today and posted a nude photo of himself, save for a well-placed copy of his second autobiographical tome, Booky Wooky 2: This Time It’s Personal.
This photographic gift wasn’t just bestowed on the world at random – Russell’s book hits stores in his native U.K. today! (Fans in the U.S. will have to wait until October 12.) In it, he reveals he fell for Katy the moment she hauled a bottle at his head.

After nearly two years as head styling assistant for Rachel Zoe, Brad Goreski has decided to leave the Zoe camp in order to pursue other career path, People reports.
Goreski joined the stylist-to-the-stars and her team in 2008 as then-lead styling assistant Taylor Jacobson’s apprentice. Upon Jacobson’s acrimonious departure from both Bravo’s The Rachel Zoe Project and the company itself, Goreski was quickly promoted and could be seen hitting the runways with Zoe. The break-up was entirely civil, they claim, and Zoe makes it clear the pair will remain friends. She says:

Shia LaBeouf: Money Gave Me My Family BackCelebuzz

Money may not buy happiness, but for Shia LaBeouf it was a way for him to get his troubled family back.
The Wall Street 2 star reveals to The Sun that his family had battled money problems in the past. “My father was never around because he was selling drugs to keep us alive,” said Shia, “My mother [...] was selling brochures in the park to keep us alive.”
Money problems were part of the reason that young Shia took up acting: “I rented my dad back into my life…this business gave me my father…money gave me my father.”

Song samples Bon Iver and Gil Scott-Heron.By Jayson Rodriguez

Kanye West

Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images

A third track from Kanye West’s forthcoming album, tentatively due November 22, leaked online Wednesday morning (September 29). The haunting “Lost in the World” samples Bon Iver’s “Woods” and includes lyrics the rapper recited during a visit to Rolling Stone magazine that was posted on YouTube.
“Lost in the World” follows “Power” and “Runaway.” The latter was also recited by West at the RS offices and premiered during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
Like the previous two tracks, “Lost in the World” features weightier lyrics from ‘Ye than the material he’s been releasing weekly as part of the G.O.O.D. Fridays series on his blog.
The new song is topped off with the vocals from Gil Scott-Heron’s fiery spoken-word number “Comment #1.”
On the Auto-Tune heavy track, West harmonizes on the chorus an interpolation of Bon Iver’s “Woods”: “I’m lost in the world, been down my whole life, I’m new in the city, but I’m down for the night.”
“You’re my devil, you’re my angel,” he begins the song. “You’re my heaven, you’re my hell/ You’re my now, you’re my forever/ You’re my freedom, you’re my jail/ You’re my lies, you’re my truth/ You’re my war, you’re my truce/ You’re my questions, you’re my proof/ You’re my stress, you’re my masseuse.”
The track clocks in at just under six minutes and features a number of musical changes throughout the production. The song starts off faintly with the Bon Iver vocoder-tinged sample before pulsating drums pick up the tempo. Midway through, however, the song slows down to a measured tempo as Scott-Heron’s vocals fire through the beat.
“Who will survive in America,” Scott-Heron’s voice chants over and over before the song ends with a mild hand-clap.

Steven Spielberg Advised ‘Let Me In’ Director

Legendary filmmaker suggested Matt Reeves listen to child actors.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Kodi Smit-McPhee in “Let Me In”

Photo: Overture Films

There is a moment in the new horror flick “Let Me In” when a local policeman goes in search of a young girl named Abby, who he believes is connected to a series of grisly murders. As he walks into her apartment, he steps on one of the toys that she and her friend Owen had been playing with moments before.
It’s a small yet redolent moment: The cop has missed her for now, this young girl with a horrifying secret whom the audience has come to care about so deeply. It turns out the moment was neither part of the shooting script nor one of director Matt Reeves’ ideas. It sprung from the mind of then-13-year-old Kodi Smit-McPhee, who plays Owen.

“I was like, ‘That was a great idea,’ ” Reeves told MTV News recently.
“And we did it. With kids, you have to be open to what they bring.”
That’s a lesson Reeves learned from none other than Steven Spielberg, who’s directed child-actor-centric films like “ET,” “Empire of the Sun” and “Hook.” The directors were brought together by J.J. Abrams, who produced Reeves’ “Cloverfield” and is working with Spielberg on “Super 8,” an upcoming film shrouded in mystery.
“[Spielberg] had seen ‘Cloverfield,’ and he was very, very complimentary,” Reeves said. “I asked J.J., ‘Do you think Spielberg would talk to me … about directing kids?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, of course. I’ll ask him.’ I met with him, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is cool.’ ”
Reeves remembers Spielberg coaching him: “He said, ‘The thing about it is you have to let them bring themselves to it. When you go in a room, say, “OK, this is your room. Where would you go? What would you do?”
Let them bring it. I’m telling you, that’s where the gold is.’
“Because they actually are the ages of the characters, you’re remembering what it was like to be 12,” he continued. “They are 12.
That was the big thing.”
The result of this advice was an environment of open collaboration in which Smit-McPhee (who starred in “The Road” last year) and co-star Chloe Moretz (who plays Abby and made a name for herself in
“Kick-Ass”) were free to contribute ideas each day. Many of those ideas, like the toy one, made it into the final picture.
“Directing them was really playful, just learning to try and see through their eyes,” Reeves said.
Check out everything we’ve got on “Let Me In.”

Arthur Penn, ‘Bonnie And Clyde’ Director, Dies

Pioneer, 88, ‘paved the way for the new generation of American directors,’ writer/director Paul Schrader says.By Kara Warner

Revolutionary theater, television and film director Arthur Penn died Tuesday at his home in New York City, just one day after celebrating his 88th birthday. The The New York Times reports that the director, perhaps most well-known for 1967′s “Bonnie and Clyde,” passed away from congestive heart failure.
The Times calls Penn “a pioneering director of live television drama in the 1950s and a Broadway powerhouse in the 1960s,” and praises his ability to develop an “intimate, spontaneous and physically oriented method of directing actors that allowed their work to register across a range of mediums.”
Penn was born on September 27, 1922, in Philadelphia. He began his career in television and made a name for himself in 1957 with the production of “The Miracle Worker,” adapted from the stage for television on CBS’ “Playhouse 90,” for which he earned an Emmy nomination.
Two years later, Penn took “The Miracle Worker” to Broadway, and he and star Anne Bancroft were awarded Tonys. In 1962, he directed the feature-film version with Bancroft, who went on to win the Oscar for Best Actress, alongside a young Patty Duke, who picked up a statue for Best Supporting Actress.
Penn also advised then-Senator John F. Kennedy during his debates with Richard Nixon in 1960 and directed the broadcast of the third debate.
All of these events led up to his most memorable work, directing Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway in “Bonnie and Clyde”
“Arthur Penn brought the sensibility of ’60s European art films to American movies,” writer/director Paul Schrader told The New York Times. “He paved the way for the new generation of American directors who came out of film schools.”
Penn continued to work in film, television and theater with some of the biggest and brightest names in the business, though none of those projects reached the level of critical mass as “Bonnie and Clyde” had done. His last theatrically released film was the apartheid drama “Inside,” in 1996. Penn served as an executive producer on several episodes of “Law and Order” in his later years, followed by one of his final theatrical productions, “Fortune’s Fool,” which earned Tonys for Alan Bates and Frank Langella in 2002.
Penn is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Maurer, a son, Matthew, a daughter, Molly, and four grandsons.

Young Jeezy Gets The Last Laugh With New Mixtape

Boo Rossini says the Snowman’s much-delayed TM103 is ‘almost done cooking.’By Jayson Rodriguez

Young Jeezy

Young Jeezy’s Spidey sense must have been going off. The Atlanta rapper’s abilities have been doubted lately, as the lead-up to his forthcoming album TM103 has been postponed several times. The rousing rapper has had his musical abilities questioned after a string of poorly received records.

Then the Snowman dropped “Rap Game” and “Amen” earlier this week and turned the tables on his critics.
On Tuesday evening, Jeezy delivered a new mixtape, The Last Laugh, via his USDA2Day website.
The rapper’s U.S.D.A. affiliate Boo Rossini told MTV News on Tuesday that Jeezy is about to shock those who thought he slipped.
“Right now, the main focus is Young,” Boo, who is promoting his new record “100 (Live By It, Die By It),” told MTV News. “He’s gonna kill them when he drops. He’s almost done cooking, so watch out for that.
After that, we got the U.S.D.A. project, and I’m working this single. We going into the new year trying to smash it.”
In May, Jeezy dropped Trap or Die 2: By Any Means Necessary with DJ Don Cannon.
He’s also released the TM103 singles “Jizzle,” “Lose My Mind” with Plies and “All White Everything” featuring Yo Gotti.
His album was slated for a September release, but the scheduled date has come and gone.
According to Boo, the Snowman is on top of his game.
“That ain’t nothing but motivation, though,” he said of the chatter. “That’s what we thrive off of. ‘Cause the odds, we always been the underdogs. … That does nothing but add fuel to the fire, that’s all that’s doing.”

Green Day, Kid Rock and Coldplay also seem like locks for the Hall, in Bigger Than the Sound.By James Montgomery

Eddie Vedder performs onstage at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony in 2007 in New York City

Photo: Scott Gries/ Getty Images

On Tuesday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unveiled the nominees for induction in 2011, a list that’s as inspiring (Beastie Boys! Tom Waits! Dr. John!) as it is mystifying (LL Cool J?).
Not surprisingly, this year’s noms sparked a whole lot of debate — because kvetching about the Rock Hall is an exercise as old as the Hall itself — and for most of the day, I was ready to lend my voice to the argument. After all, any Hall of Fame that does not include among its ranks the likes of Kiss, Rush, Cheap Trick or Def Leppard (or even Joy Division, the Replacements, Hüsker Dü, the Minutemen or Black Flag, for that matter) but does include Madonna is no Hall of mine.
But then, I decided to do something completely different. Rather than complain about all the bands the Rock Hall — and its nebulous voting committee — have snubbed, I decided to focus instead on all the bands it will someday embrace. Ignoring surefire inductees like Guns N’ Roses (eligible next year!) and Nirvana, I compiled a list of 11 active bands I truly believe will one day take their rightful place alongside greats like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and, uh, Traffic. This was a lot tougher to do than you could possibly imagine, since, you know, the state of rock is rather dire these days (let’s just say I don’t see Nickelback striding to the podium in 2021), but here are my picks, ranked in order of probability.
And while I feel pretty strongly about my list, if the Rock Hall has proven anything over the years, it’s that this whole thing is a total crapshoot. So, if I missed anyone, let me know in the comments below. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to put on my dragon boots and join my fellow Kiss Army soldiers in our yearly protest outside the Rock Hall. It’s not as bad as you might think. Cleveland is lovely this time of year …
1. Pearl Jam
A mortal lock for first-ballot induction. Thanks to their longevity, ingenuity and morality, PJ became not only the greatest band to emerge from the Seattle scene of the early ’90s, but probably the greatest American band of the past two decades. They’ve fought the good fights (taking on Ticketmaster, George W. Bush, the pro-life movement and world hunger, to name just a few), moved the required units and even threw the tapers a bone too. And through it all, Eddie Vedder has pretty much never cut his hair, except for that one time he inducted the Ramones into the Rock Hall. And even then, he had a Mohawk. That’s pretty awesome.
First Year of Eligibility: 2016
2. Radiohead
Take everything I just said about Pearl Jam (except for the “Seattle” and “American” bits) and apply it here too. Since they first emerged on the scene with their unlikely alt-rock hit “Creep,” Radiohead have pushed the boundaries further — and with greater fervor — than any of their major-label contemporaries, exploring space prog (OK Computer), avant electro (Kid A) and even, well, straight-ahead rock (In Rainbows). In the process, they’ve carved out a niche that is uniquely theirs, and when they’re inducted, they’ll instantly become, like, the fourth weirdest band in the Hall, behind Zappa, the Velvets and the Talking Heads. At least until Sun Ra is voted in.
First Year of Eligibility: 2017
3. Green Day
Up until American Idiot, there wasn’t a chance they’d make it. But thanks to that album’s globe-uniting success (and social import), Green Day are an unquestionable first-ballot selection. They’ve got the catalog, the critical love and the kind of career that doesn’t come around all that often — one that actually had a fruitful second act. And through it all, they’ve never been afraid to take a stance or reach unabashedly for the stars. Or launch a Broadway play, for that matter. What will the punx at 924 Gillman have to say when Green Day are inducted? Who cares, really.
First Year of Eligibility: 2014
4. Kid Rock
For real. Bob Ritchie has had the kind of career that defies explanation, stomping through hip-hop, rock and even country, and in the process, he’s sold roughly a bajillion records and become a rather unlikely American classic. It doesn’t hurt matters that Rock Hall co-founder Jann Wenner is a fan, or that, by working with the likes of Bob Seger and Rick Rubin, Rock has developed the kind of pedigree the Hall is looking for. And with his upcoming Born Free album, he seems to be entering the “serious artist” phase of his career, which only bodes well for his enshrinement.
First Year of Eligibility: 2015
5. Coldplay
Dude, if Genesis can make it in, these guys can too.
First Year of Eligibility: 2023
6. Phish
The Grateful Dead made it in 1994. Phish will make it in 2013 (and the Dave Matthews Band will probably follow them in 2018). For the better part of two decades, they’ve not only been America’s premier live act (don’t call them a “jam band”), but they’ve released a stream of albums that — quiet as it’s kept — are actually pretty great. Along the way, they’ve fashioned the kind of career that’s practically beyond summation, though in a pinch, you can probably call them the musical bridge between bands like the Dead and current long-players like My Morning Jacket. And when they do make it in, the jam session will be mighty, indeed.
First Year of Eligibility: 2013
7. Beck
Here’s where the list starts to get a bit shaky. Ten years ago, thanks to efforts like Odelay and Sea Change, Beck was a first-ballot selection, the much-fetishized heir to Bob Dylan’s throne (only with better mic skillz). In the years since, however, he’s seemingly lost a bit of his HOF luster, yet he’s still active, and I’m not willing to knock him off the list just yet. He has the back catalog part sewn up, and he’s about as close as a figurehead for the WTF DIY FTW 1990s as anyone I can think of, and with another solid album, he’s a lock.
First Year of Eligibility: 2017
8. The White Stripes
They’re not exactly active, but ever since 2007′s Icky Thump, Jack White has single-handedly carried the mantle for the Stripes, and, in the process, he may very well have sewn up their enshrinement. Equal parts bluesman and shaman, he’s about as close to a genuine guitar god as this generation has, and the fact that he’s none too shy about praising all those dusty guitar-slingers who came before him has certainly earned him more favor in the eyes of HOF voters. Whoever they are.
First Year of Eligibility: 2024
9. Kings of Leon
They’ve gone about things the way great rock bands are supposed to: releasing a string of critically acclaimed (but commercially vapid) albums, building a fervent fanbase overseas, touring tirelessly and, finally, breaking through to the mainstream. As scions of the great Southern rockers of the past, they carry with them an air of mysticism too, which goes a long way with voters hungry for the rock of yesteryear. Toss in the Wenner factor (he loves them), and, so long as they keep churning out the hits, they’re in.
First Year of Eligibility: 2028
10a. Sonic Youth
They’re basically the Bert Blylevens of rock: a career that justly deserves enshrinement, yet lacking the groundswell support to make it into the Hall. That’s bound to change one of these years, probably when voters realize that Sonic Youth are arguably the most important American rock band of the past three decades, anti-commercial artistes who, somewhat inexplicably, have managed to survive and thrive despite that fact. Their uncompromising ethos has made them figureheads of the indie movement, and their unyielding, effortless cool have made them the band that everyone aspires to be. Surely, all of that is enough to get them into the Hall.
First Year of Eligibility: 2007
10b. The Flaming Lips
Kind of like Sonic Youth, only with an actual hit or three to their names. Perhaps the fact that they’ve never really been embraced by the critical elite is what’s holding them back, though that’s generally what happens when you play shows encased inside an inflatable sphere. Ever since forming in Oklahoma City in 1983, they’ve undergone so many career transformations that they basically defy definition, though it’s not exactly a stretch to call them the most proletarian rock band of our time. They do it all, on their own terms, and by whatever means necessary. And, if last year’s Embryonic is any indication, they’re just hitting their stride. At this rate, they may never stop swerving, which probably means you can look for them to be inducted sometime around 2055.
First Year Of Eligibility: 2009

Britney Spears’ Best Pre-’Glee’ Comedy Moments

Before she hits up ‘Glee,’ relive her small-screen history.By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears and Josh Radnor on “How I Met Your Mother”

Tuesday night’s (September 28) “Glee” episode is all about Britney Spears. While fans and the show’s stars are excited to see the singer light up the screen in the appropriately titled “Britney/Brittany” episode, it’s hardly the first time Spears has performed for a laugh on the small screen (and we’re not talking about her docu-series “Britney & Kevin: Chaotic”).

Spears brought the funny in a show-opening appearance on the 2009 VMAs, her top 10 list on “Late Night With David Letterman” and on “Saturday Night Live,” especially during her stints as the show’s host in 2000 and 2002.
In 1999, Britney Spears stopped by “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” to teach Melissa Joan Hart a lesson or two about loneliness, fame and the proper way to do choreography. The duo also hooked up for Spears’ “(You Drive Me) Crazy” video from the soundtrack for Hart’s movie “Drive Me Crazy,” which featured “Entourage” star Adrian Grenier.
Spears was one of the many pop stars to stop by “Will & Grace” when she made an appearance on the show in 2006. She showed off her Southern accent and comedic flair as closeted lesbian Amber Louise.
The singer proved she was funny once again when she appeared on “How I Met Your Mother” in 2008. Her People’s Choice-nominated cameo (she was up for Favorite Scene-Stealing Guest Star) had fans rooting for her again after a difficult period in her personal life. She hit the small screen as Abby, a receptionist with a grudge against Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) after he forgot to call her after they, uh, went out.
What was your favorite small-screen moment for Britney Spears? Let us know in the comments!
